As the Dean of the Faculty of AgriSciences at of Mendel University in Brno (MENDELU) and as a citizen of the Czech Republic, I support the democratic principles allowing autonomous states to govern their own affairs and I consider the current situation in the Ukraine to be completely unacceptable and tragic. It is an unsubstantiated act of aggression led by the President of the Russian Federation, President Vladimir Putin, against the sovereign state of the Ukraine and its people. It is an act of absolute disrespect and contempt for established international law, fundamental human rights and human lives. Therefore, I ask all members of the academic community of the Faculty of AgriSciences and other employees of MENDELU, to individually and collectively support the Ukrainian people and offer their involvement, if possible, in the support coordinated by our university and its students. At the same time, I call on all our students not to be influenced by negative or false information and emotions and not to project this tragic situation into their mutual relationships.
The management of the Faculty of AgriSciences at MENDELU will be actively involved in supporting all Ukrainian students and academics who will request it. Simultaneously, this management agrees with and supports the views of the management of MENDELU on matters pertaining to the current situation in the Ukraine.
